Support from SSAFA in North Yorkshire
Article by Rossie Ashton
SSAFA Forces Help, (The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association - Forces Help) in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council, Catterick Garrison Headquarters, and Army Welfare Service, have provided a pot of £5k which Keyfund willl match to make £10k available to young people living in Catterick Garrison and the outstations of Ripon, Dishforth and Topcliffe.
James Parkes, Keyfund co-ordinator for North Yorkshire explained, “Thanks to the generous support of SSAFA Forces Help and Garrison HQ we will now be able to reach more young people from both service and non service families and enable them to become part of the wider community”.
In recognition of the fantastic work that Keyfund does to inspire young people in developing new skills, SSAFA Forces Help and other community organisations will have members of their committees trained up as Community Panel Members. Panel Members will sit on live panels and listen to young people’s ideas and award them the funds needed to undertake their projects. In addition staff from the Army Welfare Service and Youth Support Service will be working face to face with young people supporting them through the Keyfund process.
Lorna Bruce, Chairman for the SSAFA Forces Help In-Service Committee said “We are delighted to support the Keyfund project being established in Catterick Garrison and the outreach stations. We see it as a great opportunity for young people from military families to be involved in the project and hope they will take advantage of this.”
Keyfund is really grateful for this generous support and is really looking forward to working with SSAFA to develop this partnership.
