The Armstrong Angels celebrate 100% attendance with a Wicked trip to London
Sandra, Santa, Sophie and Rhiannon came together as a group to celebrate the significant achievement of 100% attendance at school. The girls really struggled with their attendance which was starting to affect their confidence and enjoyment of school. Keen to do something completely new to celebrate their success, but not sure how exactly to go about it, they got together with their facilitator Donna Harrison Knaggs. Miss Harrison explained how Keyfund works and that the girls truly could do whatever project they wished, so long as they developed their 12 Keyfund Skills and, with her help, planned, designed and delivered the project from start to finish. The Angels couldn’t wait to get stuck in!
After an exhilarating panel where they were asked questions by Jonathan Miles from BBC Radio Newcastle’s mid-morning show and a member of staff from Keyfund’s head office, the girls were thrilled to hear their panel agreed how hard they’d worked on developing their 12 Keyfund Skills and planning a trip to remember. The panel suggested that when they came back they gave a 15 minute lesson to other students with low attendance to talk about what they had learnt, their experiences and how others could get involved.
Below is a report from the Angels:
Day 1: After checking into our hotel rooms, we just had time for a quick freshen up before catching the tube to the west end to see the hit stage musical “Wicked.” All agreed it was amazingly, hilariously fabulous!
Hungry Angels were stuffed full of pizza and ice cream for tea at Pizza Hut then headed for the bright lights of Piccadilly Circus and Harry Potter in 3D. Now experts at travelling by London Tube, we arrived back at our hotel at midnight...time for bed...zzzzz…
Day 2: We enjoyed our hotel’s full English and continental breakfasts; fuel for the busy day ahead. Firstly the London Eye! Wow! A 4D film experience before climbing aboard our London Eye capsule...amazing views of the Thames River, Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace...
More sightseeing followed on the open top red bus (with a cheerful guide): Trafalgar Square, Nelson’s column and fountain, the Olympic clock, Hyde Park, Queen’s Guards, Ritz Hotel, Bond Street, Westminster Abbey, Marble Arch, J.K.Rowling’s house and our favourite – the Jelly Baby statue!
After MacDonald’s for lunch and a dash to the train station to catch our train home....We all agreed we ♥ LONDON
Well done Angels – we can’t wait to hear what you have up your sleeves for Stage 2.
